Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS)
The SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 requires all licensed Mortgage Loan Originators to pass a written test developed by NMLS. Each Loan Originator must take the National test component and a State specific test component in order to satisfy the SAFE test requirements of any single state jurisdiction. Loan Originators seeking licenses in multiple jurisdictions, must pass the State specific test component for each jurisdiction in which they wish to get licensed.

Important Information - Scheduling Recommendation
Once Mortgage Loan Originators have registered and paid for their test enrollment(s) through NMLS, they have the ability to schedule an appointment to take their National and State specific tests. With SAFE testing deadlines rapidly approaching, we encourage Mortgage Loan Originators to schedule their test appointment dates early. Since appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis, the sooner candidates schedule their appointments, the greater the likelihood of finding preferred testing locations and times.
First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. First Name, Last Name and NMLS ID fields must match the information entered in the NMLS system. Once the account is created, you can immediately schedule your appointment.
A separate username is no longer required. Enter your First Name, Last Name and NMLS ID to access your account.
If you need a same-day appointment or cannot find your preferred date on the web, please contact customer service for further assistance. Please have the number / name of your exam available when you register.
If you are unable to schedule with your unique NMLS ID, please contact the NMLS Call Center at (240) 386 4444 for assistance.
Wondering what to expect when you get to the testing center? Read the NMLS Testing FAQs PDF.
After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.

NMLS Late Cancellation Policy
NMLS policy requires that you cancel or reschedule your exam by no later than 12:00 p.m. local time two business days (Monday-Friday) prior to your test appointment. Failure to follow the cancellation/reschedule policy or failure to show up for a scheduled test will result in the test enrollment window being closed. A candidate must then request and pay for a new enrollment window in NMLS prior to scheduling a new test appointment.
