EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., November 26, 2001 — VUE, the computer-based testing business of NCS Pearson, today announced that it launched the alpha phase of the NCLEX® Examination test delivery services for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. on November 15, 2001. In this alpha phase of test delivery, 150 to 300 simulated candidates will register for and take the NCLEX® Examination in six company owned and operated testing centers, known as Pearson Professional Centers.
“This is a significant milestone for VUE and the National Council. By meeting the date for an alpha launch, we are well poised to meet the October 2002 date for production launch of the NCLEX® Examination. When we go into production in October 2002, we will be delivering the NCLEX® Examination in 200 Pearson Professional Centers throughout the United States and its territories,” said Neil Crocker, general manager, VUE.
Fully 11 months before the production launch, six completed Pearson Professional Centers are utilizing a newly enhanced test delivery software, which includes a new adaptive algorithm for the implementation of advanced item types within computer adaptive tests. Additionally, VUE developed a comprehensive, secure, internet-based tool that enables stakeholders to manage the flow of candidates from initial registration, to eligibility screening, and through test scheduling. It also manages accommodation granting and re-scoring.
Mr. Crocker continued, “Our first Pearson Professional Centers were completed on schedule. We now have more than 100 in the process of being built and are adding five to ten new sites a week to the process.”
“National Council selected VUE - NCS Pearson on the basis of its track record for innovative testing technology and high levels of candidate and client service,” said Casey Marks, director of Testing Services for National Council. “We are very pleased with the progress demonstrated during this alpha phase and look forward to full production in October 2002.”
The contract between VUE and the National Council was signed in August 1999, and includes test development and test delivery through the newly created; company owned and operated Pearson Professional Centers.
