American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) Renews Global Test Delivery Contract with Pearson VUE

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., June 13, 2007 — Pearson VUE, the electronic certification and licensure testing business of Pearson, announced that it has signed a five-year global contract renewal with the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) to continue secure computer-based test delivery of the Passport to Teaching certification exams. These exams will continue to be available throughout the secure Pearson VUE-owned and -operated network of Pearson Professional Centers in the United States and its territories, as well as select international locations.

Individuals who pursue the Passport to Teaching certification must prove mastery on rigorous qualifying examinations of subject area and professional teaching to earn certification. Candidates who obtain the Passport to Teaching certification are considered highly qualified according to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

As part of this contract extension, ABCTE and Pearson VUE will continue to work together to support U.S. Department of Defense certification initiatives through the Troops to Teachers program. ABCTE and Troops to Teachers partnered in 2005 to recruit qualified military personnel to the teaching profession, and are now certifying Service members through the Passport to Teaching certification program at Pearson Professional Centers worldwide.

“We are very happy to continue working with Pearson VUE,” said David Saba, president of ABCTE. “With their secure test centers and strong presence in the military market, we are confident that Pearson VUE will help us to continue growing our Passport to Teaching certification program and will always provide the quality and security we have grown accustomed to.”

“The Passport to Teaching program is important to schools, teachers and students, and Pearson VUE is pleased to continue supporting education efforts,” said Robert Whelan, president of Pearson VUE. “ABCTE fills an important role in supplying highly qualified teachers needed for student success and we are thrilled that they chose to continue testing with Pearson VUE.”
