Pearson VUE Becomes the Texas Medical Board’s Exclusive Provider for Physician, Physician Assistant, & Acupuncturist Licensure Examinations

Philadelphia, PA, September 14, 2007 — Pearson VUE, the global leader in electronic testing services for academic admissions, certification, and licensure programs, has signed an exclusive three-year contract with the Texas Medical Board to administer computer-based jurisprudence examinations for physician, physician assistant, and acupuncturist licensure. Pearson VUE will provide the Board with item banking, test delivery, reporting, and a variety of support services.

The contract, awarded at the conclusion of a competitive bidding process in June, ends the Board’s three-year relationship with its previous vendor. The Board’s licensure program will now be delivered in the Pearson VUE-owned and -operated network of more than 200 Pearson Professional Centers (PPCs) within the United States, select Canadian provinces, and the outlying U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and Guam. Nearly half of the Board’s examinations are administered to candidates outside of the State of Texas. The PPC network will enable secure, high-stakes delivery of the Board’s jurisprudence examination program to all prospective licensure candidates nationwide.

“Pearson VUE is a leader in the healthcare certification and licensing market, providing services to nearly 60 healthcare organizations. Our unique expertise and integrated structure gives the Texas Medical Board a qualified delivery partner who seeks to grow the Board’s licensure program in every possible way,” said Art Valentine, vice president of professional services at Pearson VUE.

“When Promissor joined Pearson VUE, they brought a 26-year history of providing licensing examinations for various state regulatory boards and agencies, including several within the State of Texas,” said Robert Whelan, president of Pearson VUE. “The Texas Medical Board will benefit not only from the knowledge and commitment of our regulatory experts but also the dedication of the entire organization to providing excellent customer service.”
