Texas Department of Insurance Outsources Continuing Education Program to Pearson VUE
BLOOMINGTON, Minn., November 11, 2008 — The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has awarded Pearson VUE a contract to administer its continuing education program for insurance licensees in the State of Texas. Pearson VUE, the industry leader in licensure for regulatory and certification boards, was awarded the contract following a competitive bidding process earlier this year.
Pearson VUE will review applications for accuracy and provide data entry of the documentation into the system to verify that they meet the standards laid out by TDI. In addition, Pearson VUE will begin to bank credits for the 175,000 insurance agents and adjusters licensed in Texas; taken together, these licensees account for over 2,500,000 continuing education credit hours annually. Previously, TDI reviewed the provider and course applications themselves and did not require licensees to bank credits.
“We are very proud to extend our continuing education services to the State of Texas,” said Art Valentine, vice president of professional services and general manager of regulatory services at Pearson VUE. “Our staff, technology, and business processes are well-suited for implementing and running an effective continuing education program for a large state such as Texas.”
Robert Whelan, president of Pearson VUE, added, “Pearson VUE’s experience in the regulatory industry — insurance in particular — gives us a great advantage over our competitors in delivering top–notch continuing education programs. The Texas Department of Insurance, as well as licensees and education providers, will benefit greatly from Pearson VUE’s expertise and dedication.”
