Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance to Continue Relationship with Pearson VUE for Insurance Licensure Services

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., June 15, 2009 — Pearson VUE, the computer-based testing business of Pearson, has announced that the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (“Department”) has selected Pearson VUE to continue to administer its insurance licensure program, following a competitive bidding process. The contract, signed at the beginning of June, will extend Pearson VUE’s relationship with the Department through 2014.

Pearson VUE was first selected to develop and administer the Department’s insurance licensure examination in 1994. In 1999, the Department expanded its contract to include a full range of pre-licensing and continuing education services. Over the past 15 years, Pearson VUE has helped the Department significantly improve its program by offering expanded test center coverage, online registration, enhancements to the test development process and ongoing modifications to the continuing education program in response to changes in state law.

“The Department of Commerce and Insurance contracts with vendors who successfully complete our competitive bidding process,” said Brenda Sechler, director of agent licensing for the Department. “Pearson VUE was the successful bidder in our most recent request for proposal to administer our agent license exams under the contract period that will begin on July 1, 2009.”

Art Valentine, vice president of professional services and general manager of regulatory services at Pearson VUE, said, “We are very pleased to continue to serve the needs of Tennessee insurance candidates and the Department. Together, we have accomplished a great deal and stand ready to adapt to future industry trends and requirements.”

Robert Whelan, president and chief executive officer of Pearson VUE, added, “The decision of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance to renew our contract gives test takers and licensees the stability and dedication to customer satisfaction that only Pearson VUE can offer. We will continue, as we have for the past 15 years, do our best to serve the Department and all of its constituents.”
