Pearson VUE Renews Exclusive Exam Testing Agreement with Excelsior College

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., April 13, 2011 — Pearson VUE, the computer-based testing business of Pearson, announced today that Excelsior College has elected to extend their exclusive multi-year contract with Pearson VUE for computer-based delivery of Excelsior College’s credit-by-examination program. These exams will continue to be delivered throughout the Pearson VUE-owned and -operated network of more than 264 Pearson Professional Centers as well as Pearson VUE Authorized Test Centers, located on academic campuses and military bases throughout the world.

Excelsior College, a regionally accredited, nonprofit institution, was founded in 1971 and is a world leader in distance education. Located in Albany, N.Y., its flexible yet academically rigorous programs help busy adults earn the degrees they need to reach their goals. Excelsior College offers degree programs and awards credit based upon completion of its online courses and its credit-by-examination program. With this agreement, students who have mastered the exam material through some combination of experience and self-study may demonstrate that mastery and earn college credit by sitting for an Excelsior College® Examination (ECE) at a Pearson VUE test center.

Credit earned via Excelsior College Examinations is accepted by more than 1,600 colleges and universities nationwide as transfer credit and for advance placement purposes. In 2009, Excelsior College and Pearson VUE created the UExcel credit-by-examination program, which allows students to save time and money by earning introductory-level undergraduate credit via computer-based exams. Together, nearly 50 exams are available through the ECE and UExcel credit-by-exam programs.

“We are honored that Excelsior College has chosen to continue this alliance with Pearson VUE,” said Robert Whelan, president and CEO of Pearson VUE. “We have built a relationship with Excelsior College that will continue to grow and serve the needs of adult learners worldwide.”

Dr. Patrick Jones, Dean of Assessment at Excelsior College said, “Over the last five years Pearson VUE has shown its commitment to superior customer service to the College and our students. The consistency, quality and convenience of testing within the Pearson VUE test center network serves as a key advantage for Excelsior College students.”
