Minneapolis, Minn., December 20, 1999 — National Computer Systems, Inc., (NCS) (NASDAQ: NLCS) announced today that through its Virtual University Enterprises (VUE) IT testing service, it has contracted with CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association, to begin delivery of CompTIA certification exams. CompTIA certifies information technology and service professionals with its widely adopted, vendor-neutral certification programs. Test delivery is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2000 through VUE's global network of testing centers. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
CompTIA was founded in 1982. Today it represents over 8,000 computer hardware and software manufacturers, distributors, retailers, e-tailers, resellers, VARs, system integrators and training, service, telecommunications and Internet companies. More than 150,000 professionals hold the A+™ Certification, which assesses basic computer service and repair technology skills. Many of those with A+ certification are expected to also pursue Network+™, which launched in April 1999 and deals with computer network technologies. The association's newest international certification, i-Net+™, validates entry-level knowledge of Internet technology and will go live in early 2000.
“CompTIA is a vendor-neutral organization, providing a unified voice for the industry in the areas of public policy, workforce development and electronic commerce standards. It seems fitting that we offer our certification exam candidates a choice of testing vendors,” said Phil Corcoran, founder and CEO of Comark and chair of the CompTIA Board of Directors. “We chose VUE for their extensive international presence and reputation for first-rate service for candidates, testing centers and sponsors.”
“We are excited that VUE testing centers will now offer CompTIA exam candidates the most innovative, convenient and reliable testing experience possible,” said Neil Crocker, VUE’s vice president of IT Programs. “Our testing center channel has made it very clear to us that the A+ certification is an important program to help complete our IT certification portfolio. As a result, we are expecting an overwhelmingly positive response to this announcement.”
CompTIA certifies information technology and service professionals with its widely adopted and vendor-neutral A+, Certified Document Imaging Architech™(CDIA), Network+ and i-Net+ certification programs. Headquartered in Lombard, Ill., the association’s Web address is www.comptia.org.
