International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners®
The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) is the global authority that determines the knowledge of practitioners in lactation and breastfeeding care. The International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLC®) credential identifies essential members of the maternal-child health team who protect, promote and support breastfeeding to benefit women, children and families worldwide. The IBLCE certification program holds the prestigious National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation, which is a mark of quality for certification programs.
As an International Organisation, IBLCE offers the IBCLC certification examination in a number of languages and has certificants in 105 countries around the world. In 2013 IBLCE began transitioning to the use of British English (UK) in its publications and using the British English version of the examination as the foundation for all translated versions of its examination.
Since there are relatively few substantive differences between British English and American English and because British English is the most common form of English used worldwide, the spelling used on the English version of the IBLCE examination is British English. Where terms differ between the two forms of English, the British term is noted first with American English noted second, e.g. nappy (diaper).
Also note that, the IBCLC examination includes both US and Metric Weights and Measures. Metric measurements are noted first with US measurements noted second in parentheses, e.g. 3.74kg (8lb. 4oz.).
