The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) is the regulatory body for veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses in the UK.
The RCVS Awarding Body awards nationally accredited qualifications (NVQs and Certificates in Veterinary Nursing Theory). The Certificates in Veterinary Nursing Theory (VRQs) are awarded at Level 2 and Level 3, and are examined by means of external Multiple Choice examinations.
Both the Level 2 and Level 3 examinations comprise two separate papers which contain 90 multiple choice questions in each paper. Candidates are required to select one correct answer from four possibilities. No marks are deducted for incorrect or unanswered questions. The length of time allocated to each paper is 90 minutes (1 hour and 30 minutes).
Exam Registration and Scheduling Information
To be eligible to enter the Level 2 or Level 3 examination, candidates must first be registered for the relevant award through their Centre (VRQ Course Provider) at least four calendar months before the closing date for the examination. Application to sit the examination must also be made through the course provider who will authorise the entries and supply details to the RCVS by the examination closing date. Examination application forms and further details are available on the RCVS website.
Once the examination entries have been processed, candidates will be sent an email which will confirm their examination entry and invite them to book an examination appointment within the appointment booking window. Candidates sitting both examination papers may either book these to be taken as one unit, or may make two separate appointments which must fall within the same booking window.
After you have received your email, you may schedule your exam appointment online or by telephone.
Please note that any subsequent cancellation of your appointment must be effected through the RCVS.
