The Australian Medical Council (AMC) oversees the assessment process for international medical graduates who seek medical registration in Australia. As the next phase of a long-standing partnership, a new Pearson Professional Centre (PPC) in Melbourne will offer AMC candidates the convenience of undertaking their computer-based AMC Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) examination at the same location as their AMC clinical examination.

With 31% of doctors practising in Australia having completed their medical training overseas, increasing access to high-quality assessments is key to addressing current and emerging health care challenges. “International medical graduates are a vital part of our medical workforce and make significant contributions to communities — especially in regional and remote areas,” said Professor Geoff McColl, President of the AMC, speaking at the AMC Test Centre last month. “This new test centre is part of our ongoing commitment to build our assessment capacity, provide professionals with the best possible testing experience, and maintain the highest standards in medical practice.”

A state-of-the-art facility equipped with top-tier security measures to uphold the integrity of high-stakes examinations, the AMC Test Centre opened its doors to the first group of AMC clinical exam candidates in March 2025.

‘’We’re delighted to have opened this new PPC and to be collaborating with the Australian Medical Council on advancing assessment strategies through our Assessment Innovation Hub — which will launch later this year. By enhancing access to secure and innovative testing methods, Pearson VUE is contributing to skills transformation within this critical sector,’’ commented Craig McFarlane, Vice President Pearson VUE ANZ and Southeast Asia.

Pearson VUE and the AMC will soon announce details about an upcoming launch event to highlight plans for facilitating innovation, research, and development into the evolution of healthcare assessment strategies in Australia and beyond.
