ABEM Testing

The mission of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is to ensure the highest standards in the specialty of Emergency Medicine. To accomplish this mission, ABEM conducts an initial certification program and a continuous certification program. ABEM also co-sponsors subspecialty certification programs, and administers the certification and continuous certification examinations for the subspecialties of Emergency Medical Services and Medical Toxicology in Pearson VUE test centers.

Registration

Before scheduling an examination appointment, you must have already:

  1. Received email notification from ABEM of your eligibility to sit for the examination; and
  2. Paid an examination registration fee to ABEM.

Scheduling

First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. Appointments may be made up to one business day in advance.

You may schedule your test online or through the Pearson Call Center.

After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.

You should receive the confirmation within 24 hours of scheduling your exam appointment.

  • If you schedule your test online and do not receive a confirmation letter within 24 hours, your appointment has not been completed. Please contact Pearson VUE for assistance.
