AMT Testing

American Medical Technologists (AMT) is a national agency that certifies eight primary designations of healthcare personnel: medical technologists, medical laboratory technicians, molecular diagnostics technologists, office laboratory technicians, medical assistants, phlebotomy technicians, dental assistants and medical office administrative specialists. The organization’s purpose is to help protect the welfare of the public by maintaining competency standards in these occupations.

AMT Certification examinations are intended to evaluate the competence of entry-level practitioners. The examinations address content areas defined and validated by subject-matter experts, educators and individuals working in their respective fields. As the examinations provide only one source of information regarding examinee competence, they are used in conjunction with other indicators of training and experience in the granting of certification.

Create a Pearson VUE Account

A Pearson VUE account is required the first time a candidate schedules an appointment to take an AMT exam. Candidates should enter their AMT Candidate ID and first and last name. Candidates should enter their name exactly as it appears on their AMT Authorization to Test letter. Once they have created an account with Pearson VUE, candidates will use this account for subsequent exams.

Locate a Testing Center

Candidates will be able to locate a Test Center authorized to administer their examination near their location.

Select a Date and Time

Candidates will sign in to their accounts and select a date and time for their exam. All available dates will be presented to them for the location they have selected. After they schedule their exam, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation email with all pertinent exam information.

Rescheduling or cancelling an exam

Candidates who need to reschedule or cancel their exam appointment can make modifications 24 hours or more prior to their exam appointment date and time by logging into their Pearson VUE account or by calling Pearson VUE Customer Service directly.

Rescheduling or cancelling within 24 hours of their exam date and time requires the examinee to contact the AMT office to remit the retesting fee for reauthorization to test. Please contact the AMT office at 847-823-5169.

On the Testing Date

A test candidate should arrive at the test center 30 minutes before their scheduled appointment time, allowing adequate time to complete the necessary sign-in procedures. Candidates should be prepared to show two forms of identification as listed in the ID policy, have their digital photo taken and provide a digital signature. If a candidate arrives more than 15 minutes late for their appointment, they may be refused admission and will forfeit the exam attempt and any applicable fees.
