Bar Standards Board Certification Testing
Welcome to the registration centre for the Bar Course Aptitude Test (BCAT).
A BCAT pass is one of the core requirements for the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). You will not be able to study the BPTC without it.
How to register
Registration and scheduling of your BCAT takes place via the buttons to the right on this page. You can take the test from 19 December 2016 until 30 September 2017. Registration for the test is available from 9 December 2016 until 26 September 2017
The BCAT costs £150 if taken in UK and EU test centres and £170 if taken in the rest of the world. You pay online at the point of scheduling your test.
You can sit the test in over 100 countries worldwide through Pearson VUE Test centres. Click on the test centre locator button to find your nearest test centre. You will be asked to select a test centre at the point of scheduling your test. You are permitted a maximum of three attempts at the test in one year, starting from the date of your first attempt.

Please note: the pass mark for the BCAT has increased from 37 to 45.
Appointments may be made up to one calendar day prior to the day a candidate wishes to test, subject to availability.
Please note: the payment platform is not available in the following countries. You will need to contact your preferred test centre to arrange payment and schedule your test.
