CCI Testing

Cardiovascular Credentialing International, Inc. (CCI) is a not-for-profit corporation established in September 1988, for the sole purpose of administering credentialing examinations as an independent credentialing agency. CCI is the resultant corporation of the merger of the testing components of the National Alliance of Cardiovascular Technologists (NACT), the American Cardiology Technologists Association (ACTA) and the National Board of Cardiovascular Testing (NBCVT). CCI represents the summation of testing processes for the cardiovascular professional that began in the 1960’s.

A two-part examination process is available for the following three (3) CCI Registry Level Examinations. These CCI Registry Level Credentials are awarded to those who successfully complete the Cardiovascular Science Examination and one of the following three Registry Level Examinations. These Registry Level Examinations are:

  • Invasive / Cardiac Catheterization — Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
  • Noninvasive / Echocardiography — Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)
  • Vascular Technology / Vascular Ultrasound — Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)

A one-part examination process is available for the CCI Electrophysiology Registry Level Examination. The Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) Credential is awarded to those who successfully complete the CCI Electrophysiology Registry Level Examination. Since relevant content pertaining to Cardiovascular Science is included in this examination, passing the Cardiovascular Science Examination is NOT required.

  • Electrophysiology - Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES)

A one-part certification examination is also available for ECG, Cardiac Stress Testing and Holter monitors. Successful completion of the Certified Cardiographic Exam awards the “Certified Cardiographic Technician” (CCT) credential.

The only mechanism for obtaining a CCI credential is through examination by CCI. Upon passing the required examination process, the registrant is awarded a credential certificate to signify their registry/certification status.
