Fellowship Examination of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EBOT Exam)
The success of the EBOT Exam is spreading throughout Europe and every year, increasing numbers of applicants are encouraged to take this prestigious qualification, which is helping ever greater numbers of EBOT fellows to progress in their careers. The EBOT Exam has evolved over the last few years to make it more open and fair, and this fact has been well received by all candidates.
The EBOT Exam addresses not only knowledge, but also skills, and the EBOT Board is looking at how to grade these areas of assessment in a final fellowship examination in the future. This will take us closer to the requirements of many of the European orthopaedic societies within the European Union. The content of the exam is already based on the Syllabus of the European Educational Programme Curriculum.
To open the exam to an even wider range of candidates and make it accessible to a larger number of European residents, the EBOT Board has recently decided to offer a certificate of basic training to all those candidates who have successfully completed section I, the basic, written part of the exam. Successful candidates in this first part can stand alone with this certificate or proceed to section II, the advanced, oral part. Only after successful completion of both parts, will candidates be awarded with the EBOT fellowship, FEBOT.
From 2025, non-European citizens NOT working in a European country will be accepted to sit the Written EBOT Exam upon strict requisites and acceptance from the EBOT Reviewing Committee (please visit the EBOT website for further information). Non-European citizens NOT working in a European country will only be able to take the part I exam via a fully proctored exam from home.
Following this decision, the registration fees have been updated as followed:
- Fee European candidates: 350€
- Fee non-European candidates working in Europe (or UEMS affiliated): 400€
- Fee non-European candidates not working in Europe (or UEMS affiliated): 550€
European candidates eligible to take part I of EBOT are citizens of the European Union + United Kingdom; Switzerland; Norway; Iceland; Armenia; Georgia; Israel; Serbia; Turkey; Ukraine. Citizens of other countries working in the above-mentioned countries are considered as “non-European candidates working in the Europe”. Citizens of other countries not working in those countries are “non-European candidates not working in Europe”.
European candidates and non-European candidates working in the EU can choose to take the written part as fully proctored online exam from home OR at one of the different examination centres provided by Pearson VUE. The written part I exam will be held on 27th May 2025. Candidates can either book a time slot for the proctored online exam or a seat at one of the available examination centres from a list provided during the registration process.
