Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure® (MTEL®) Computer-Based Testing

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education contracted with the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson for the development, administration, and scoring of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure® (MTEL®). The purpose of the MTEL program is to help ensure that all candidates seeking licensure in Massachusetts have the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level teaching in Massachusetts public schools.

  • Communication and Literacy Skills: Reading subtest
  • Communication and Literacy Skills: Writing subtest
  • Communication and Literacy Skills: Reading subtest and Writing subtest
  • Foundations of Reading

Registration & Scheduling Information

Registration

You must complete test registration through the MTEL website and receive your Authorization to Test to be able to schedule a test.

Scheduling

You may schedule your test appointment online 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. When creating your account and scheduling your test, be sure to have your Authorization to Test available because you will be asked to provide your ID number. You will be sent an email from Pearson VUE with your new account information. Test appointments are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation email listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.
