North Carolina Foundations of Reading | General Curriculum

The Foundations of Reading test for North Carolina assesses proficiency in and depth of understanding of the subjects of reading and writing development. The test reflects scientifically based reading research and is aligned with the Common Core State Standards.

The General Curriculum test for North Carolina assesses proficiency in and depth of understanding of each of the elementary subject matters required for an elementary teaching license in North Carolina. It is a test of general content knowledge including language arts, history and social science, science and technology/engineering, and mathematics.

Test Registration & Scheduling Information

Registration

To take a test, you must first complete the registration and payment process at the program website: www.nc.nesinc.com

Test codes for the tests are as follows.

  • Foundations of Reading test: SA090
  • General Curriculum test:
    • Multi-subject subtest only: SA103
    • Mathematics subtest only: SA203
    • Both subtests in one session: SA701

Scheduling

Once you have registered to take a test, you may schedule your test appointment online 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. Test appointments are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

To schedule a test appointment, log in to your account at the site noted above and select “schedule” on the current registrations page for the test you wish to schedule.

After you schedule your test appointment, Pearson VUE will send you a confirmation email listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.

Rescheduling or Canceling a Test

To reschedule or cancel a test appointment, log in to your account at the program website and follow the instructions provided on the current registrations page: www.nc.nesinc.com
