Certifications

Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW)

The Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) is an internationally recognized certification denoting a high level of wine knowledge and expertise. CSW holders are found in every aspect of the wine industry. Candidates should prepare with the CSW Study Guide and the CSW Workbook before attempting the exam.

Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS)

The Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS) is a certification denoting the holder has mastered a wide base of knowledge on all topics in the world of spirits. Candidates should study using the CSS Study Guide before attempting the exam.

Certified Wine Educator (CWE)

The Certified Wine Educator (CWE) Exam is a unique certification that not only tests a candidate's wine knowledge, but also validates his or her tasting acumen and teaching ability. This certification is widely recognized and highly regarded by the international wine and spirits industry. All candidates pursuing the CWE certification must already possess the Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) certification. The theory portion of the CWE Exam, which includes an 85-item multiple choice exam and a one-hour essay exam are available through Pearson VUE Testing Centers.

Scheduling for a computer-based exam

After Pearson VUE has received your exam authorization you will receive an authorization to test email. It is your responsibility to make an appointment to take the exam. Exam appointments may be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance. Space at testing locations are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. When creating your account and scheduling your exam, you will need your SWE candidate ID number from your authorization to test email.

Scheduling by Phone: Candidates scheduling their initial appointment by phone will be required to pay a $25 scheduling fee.

Scheduling Online: There is no scheduling fee for scheduling online.

After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.

Reschedule and Cancel Appointment Fees

Candidates who wish to reschedule or cancel their exam need to do so 48 hours prior to their scheduled appointment. A fee of $25 will be applied to cancelled or rescheduled exam appointments changed either online or over the phone.
