ABBE Examinations

If you are completing an exam online, please read the following information carefully:

• Do not use a work device, as firewalls will likely prevent the exam from running. This will then be classed as a ‘no show’ and you will need to pay for a resit.
• Ensure your exam environment is free from other people, paperwork, notes, books, and other devices, including phones, tablets, smartwatches, and headphones.  If your exam environment is unsuitable, your proctor may ask you to remove items or change location, or they may revoke the exam session.
• Prior to your exam, please perform the three system tests in circumstances similar to your appointment time. For example, if you have an exam booked for 9:30 am on a Friday morning, run a test at 9:30 am on the Friday before. Please note that successfully completing the system tests does not guarantee access to the exam on the day of your booking, and the tests do not check your Wi-Fi capability.
• The exam is proctored remotely, meaning a proctor will be supervising you throughout the exam via your webcam. If you experience any issues during the exam, there is a live chat function in your exam that you will be able to use.

ABBE recommends taking your exam in person at your local test centre whenever possible. This is to mitigate the likelihood of technical issues, which can otherwise add stress to an already stressful time. You can find your local centre when booking your exam.

At the test centre, you will not be able to take any personal belongings into the exam room with you, unless they are needed for medical reasons and have been approved by ABBE before the exam. Comfort aids do not require prior approval. Secure lockers will be available for you to store your belongings safely.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time. If you arrive late, you may not be permitted into the exam room and therefore you will have to pay for a resit.

Whether you are taking your exam online or in a test centre, please ensure that your training provider has registered you with ABBE using your full legal name, exactly as it appears on your ID. If the name on your exam booking does not match your ID, you will not be permitted admission to your exam. Please contact your training centre to rectify any discrepancies before booking your exam.

ABBE is a specialist awarding body that provides nationally recognised qualifications in the Built Environment industry sector. These ABBE exams are delivered by the Pearson system, which is designed to offer candidates a unique examinations experience that endeavours to test the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the subject area.

ABBE and your training provider are not liable if you cannot sit your exam due to illness or other reasons. You can cancel an exam up to 48 hours before your appointment time, and you can reschedule up to 24 hours before. If you have not updated Pearson with any changes and your exam is set to take place as usual, but you do not attend, this will be classed as a 'no show'.

Please note that a 'no-show' will be classed as an exam attempt, and you will have to pay for a further attempt.

If you fail your exam, please contact your training provider to discuss your options for a resit.

ABBE must approve all reasonable adjustments prior to your exam. Reasonable adjustments must be put in place before you make an exam booking to enable Pearson to prepare the system in advance.

You will be required to provide an acceptable form of ID. It must be in date and include both your photo and signature. If you arrive for your exam without ID, you will be refused entry. This will be classed as a ‘no show’, and you will need to pay for a resit.

ABBE receives results from Pearson every Friday. These are then immediately sent to the training centre, who will inform you of your results. Please note that once ABBE has released results, your individual training centre will have its own timescale for sharing them with you. If you are unsure how long this will take, please check with your provider.
