Clinical Neuropsychology Specialty Written Examination by the ABCN

You will be required to affirm that you have read and accept the terms of the ABCN Non-Disclosure Agreement on screen prior to beginning your exam. The agreement reads: "I will not disclose or provide to anyone orally, electronically, or in any format, information about the content of this examination. I understand that all documents and examination questions are, and shall remain, property of the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology." If you do not accept these terms, then you will not be allowed to take the exam.

The ABCN written examination is the second stage in the board certification process. To be eligible to sit for the written exam, candidates must first have their training and education credentials approved by ABPP. Approved candidates will be notified by ABPP Central Office and given instructions on how to submit the ABPP examination fee. Once a candidate has paid their ABPP exam fee, they must register with the exam vendor and pay a seat fee before they can schedule an exam date, time, and location. The current seat fee for exam delivery at a Pearson testing center location is $225. This does not include additional transaction fees charged by the vendor.

ABCN will notify the candidate after the registration has been processed. Processing may take up to 5 business days, after which the candidate will be sent an authorization e-mail to schedule the exam. The authorization email will include a candidate ID number which must be used during the scheduling process. Exams cannot be scheduled less than 72 hours in advance. Additionally, if candidates wish to cancel or reschedule an exam, they must contact Pearson no less than 72 hours in advance of the scheduled date/time to avoid forfeiture of their seat fee.

Candidates will have 3 hours to complete the 125-item ABCN Written Examination.

ABCN examinations are administered in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Reasonable accommodation will be made to meet the needs of applicants with disabilities or who would otherwise have difficulty adhering to examination policies and procedures. Applicants who request accommodation because of their disability must apply to the Board in writing, including all documentation and other evidence substantiating the disability, no later than 60 days prior to the opening date of the exam window. Requests for accommodations may be made as soon as you are notified of your eligibility to sit for the exam. You do not need to wait until you register with the vendor or schedule your exam to request accommodations.

Exam results will be communicated to candidates by ABCN, typically within 4 weeks of the close of the testing window.
