ABEM Certification Examination
The American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) Certification Examination is the only U.S. exam certifying physicians in EDX medicine, with more than 3,500 physicians currently certified. ABEM promotes high quality patient care by overseeing a certification process that requires physicians to obtain specific academic training and clinical experience, then demonstrate competency in the EDX evaluation of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal systems by passing a comprehensive examination. Here are some of the reasons to become ABEM Certified:
- The ABEM examination is the only certifying examination focusing on electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine.
- ABEM certification signifies that you have passed the most comprehensive examination in EDX medicine.
- Some EDX laboratories require ABEM certification of physicians before they may practice in a laboratory.
- ABEM certification is recognized nationally and internationally as providing the highest standards in EDX medicine.
- ABEM certification is required to become a fellow of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
- ABEM certification demonstrates to your patients and colleagues your dedication to a high level of quality in EDX medicine.
Before scheduling an ABEM Certification Exam with Pearson VUE, you must have already
- been approved by the ABEM and notified of your eligibility to sit for the examination;
- paid an examination authorization fee to the ABEM; and
- received an authorization-to-test email from ABEM
The standards for passing the examinations are established by the ABEM. For more information, visit http://www.abemexam.org/
Scheduling for a computer based exam
When you receive your authorization-to-test email, you may schedule an examination appointment. It is up to you to make an appointment to take the exam during the testing period.
Exam appointments may be made up to one business day in advance. Locations are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is advisable to schedule early.
First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. Please note that account activation may require up to 24 hours. When creating your account and scheduling your exam, you will need your ABEM candidate ID number from the authorization-to-test email.
After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.
