American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG)
The mission of the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) is to serve the public and medical profession by establishing professional certification standards and promoting lifelong learning as well as excellence in medical genetics and genomics. To accomplish this mission, the ABMGG conducts initial certification examinations which are designed to assess knowledge of both your specialty and genetics and genomics as a whole.
To achieve initial certification, you must pass both the general and specialty exams administered as computer-based assessments at Pearson Professional Centers across the country.
Application information
Before scheduling an examination appointment with Pearson, you must have already
- completed the ABMGG application;
- paid the designated fee;
- met all requirements; and
- received an Authorization-to-Test email.
For additional information, visit the ABMGG website or contact the ABMGG certification team at credentials@abmgg.org.
Scheduling your exam appointment
Your Authorization‑to‑Test (ATT) email includes the date range in which you can take your exam. You are responsible for booking your appointment within that timeframe.
All requests for testing accommodations should be made through ABMGG during the application process. If you have already been approved to test by ABMGG and would like to add accommodations to your exam authorization, please contact ABMGG at credentials@abmgg.org.
Create your Pearson account
You will need a Pearson account before you can schedule your exam. When creating your account, use the same name, phone number, and email address that you provided to ABMGG in your application. You will also be asked to enter your 20‑character PTI ID.
If you experience any issues with your account, the quickest way to connect with a customer service agent is through the chat feature available on this page.
Schedule, reschedule, or cancel your appointment
You are responsible for managing your own exam appointment. Appointments can be scheduled up to one business day in advance, and test center availability is offered on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
After you schedule
Once your appointment is confirmed, Pearson will send you a confirmation email that includes your exam date and time, the test center address, and important policies to review before test day.
You will receive a confirmation email whenever you schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment.
If you do not receive a confirmation email, please sign in to your Pearson account to verify your appointment status.
Name‑matching requirement
If the first or last name in your registration does not match your photo ID, please email pearson@proftesting.com for assistance.
