American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM)
The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) was established in 2011 to serve the public and the field of obesity medicine by maintaining standards for assessment and credentialing physicians. Certification as an ABOM diplomate signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of obesity medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in obesity care. Physicians who complete the ABOM certification process in obesity medicine are designated Diplomates of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. The ABOM administers the Certification Examination for Obesity Medicine Physicians once per year.
Application information
Before scheduling an examination appointment with Pearson, you must have already
- completed the ABOM application;
- paid the designated fee; and
- received an Authorization-to-Test email.
For additional information, visit the ABOM website or contact the ABOM certification team at info@abom.org.
Scheduling your exam appointment
Your Authorization‑to‑Test (ATT) email includes the date range in which you can take your exam. You are responsible for booking your appointment within that timeframe.
All requests for testing accommodations should be made through the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) during the application process. If you have already been approved to test by ABOM and would like to add accommodations to your testing record, please contact ABOM at info@abom.org.
Create your Pearson account
You will need a Pearson account before you can schedule your exam. When creating your account, use the same name, phone number, and email address that you provided to ABOM in your application. You will also be asked to enter your 20‑character PTI ID.
If you experience any issues with your account, the quickest way to connect with a customer service agent is through the chat feature available on this page.
Schedule, reschedule, or cancel your appointment
You are responsible for managing your own exam appointment. Appointments can be scheduled up to one business day in advance, and test center availability is offered on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
After you schedule
Once your appointment is confirmed, Pearson will send you a confirmation email that includes your exam date and time, the test center address, and important policies to review before test day.
You will receive a confirmation email whenever you schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment.
If you do not receive a confirmation email, please sign in to your Pearson account to verify your appointment status.
Name‑matching requirement
If the first or last name in your registration does not match your photo ID, please email pearson@proftesting.com for assistance.
