American Nuclear Society (ANS)
The American Nuclear Society (ANS) offers the Certified Nuclear Professional (CNP) certification, designed to validate foundational knowledge and competencies essential for professionals working in the nuclear field. This credential is relevant for individuals who work in private industry (including utilities and suppliers), government, academia, research laboratories, medical facilities, and consulting firms. Individuals working in diverse roles across the nuclear sector, including engineering, operations, regulatory affairs, communications, education, healthcare, and executive leadership, are encouraged to apply.
The CNP aims to establish a recognized standard of expertise and knowledge in the nuclear science and technology field. Candidates are required to meet specific eligibility criteria and successfully pass a comprehensive, proctored multiple-choice examination. The exam assesses knowledge in key areas such as nuclear fundamentals, safety culture, health physics, regulatory concepts, fuel cycle and waste management, industry codes and standards, non-power applications, and nuclear power.

The agreement in part reads: “I will not disclose or provide to anyone orally, electronically, or in any other format, information about the content of this examination. I understand that all documents and examination questions are, and shall remain, the exclusive property of American Nuclear Society.” If you do not accept these terms, then you will not be allowed to take the exam.
