Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) Testing

The Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) is the national standard for the ophthalmic practice management industry. Ophthalmic professionals experienced in administration have achieved this designation. The COE program is governed by the National Board for the Certification of Ophthalmic Executives (NBCOE), a committee of ASOA. The mission of the NBCOE is to advance the field of Ophthalmic Administration (the Profession) by developing and maintaining criteria and procedures for conducting a valid and reliable national certification examination.

The COE designation formally recognizes professionals who achieve the NBCOE eligibility requirements for ophthalmic knowledge and skills. The COE certification promotes excellence and professionalism; and enables career growth and advancement.

Requirements

Before scheduling an examination appointment:

  1. You must have completed and submitted to ASOA the certification examination application and included all requested information, documentation and appropriate fees.
  2. Received examination authorization from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO®) notifying you that you are eligible to for the examination and providing you with your Candidate ID information.

Scheduling

Scheduling of an appointment can be accomplished in one of two ways. You can call the Pearson VUE call center at 888-231-1929. An agent will assist you in finding the best date and test center for your examination. You may also schedule your own appointment using the online scheduling tool on this page. Please note that the account creation may take up to 24 hours. You will be notified by e-mail ONLY when your account is activated. This email will identify your user name and password to enter the scheduling system.

After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.

Non-Disclosure Agreement

You will be required to agree to the NDA Agreement (PDF) that will be presented at the beginning of your examination. Failure to read/accept the agreement within the allotted 5 minutes will result in your examination ending and a forfeit of your examination fees. Please take a moment to review the agreement now so that you are familiar with the information when you sit for your examination.
