Eligibility Requirements for Participation
Participants may only take pilot tests for which they are qualified. To be qualified to take a pilot test, participants must be juniors, seniors, or graduate students preparing for licensure/endorsement, or individuals recently licensed/endorsed (0-3 years) in Earth and Space Science or Biology.
Please note: Educator preparation faculty are not eligible to participate in the pilot tests.
Current Pilot Test Opportunities
- Earth and Space Science (select PTOH114 when scheduling)
- Biology (select PTOH706 when scheduling)
Please be aware that the Biology pilot test contains questions from three (3) “testlets” that will be associated with the redeveloped Biology Assessment:
- Structures and Processes of Cells and Organisms
- Ecosystem Interactions and Dynamics
- Heredity and Evolution
When this exam is administered in the future, you will have the option to take all three testlets at one time or register and schedule each testlet separately.
Advantages of Participating
You will have the opportunity to gain valuable practice in computer-based testing. For the *acceptable completion of each pilot test form, participants are offered an incentive of either a $75.00 Amazon gift code or a $109.00 Ohio Assessments for Educators test voucher to be used toward future registration fees for an Ohio Assessments for Educators test. Test vouchers are non-transferable and expire one year from the date of issue. Incentives are issued upon verification of the acceptable completion of each pilot test form. Your incentive will be sent to your email address approximately 4-6 weeks after the end of the pilot testing window. You will not receive a score for this pilot test, nor does it count towards licensure.
Other advantages of pilot test participation include:
- gauging professional knowledge by taking actual test items, and
- gaining practical testing experience.
* To be eligible for an incentive, participants must be qualified in the specific field for which they are taking a pilot test and they must complete the pilot test form as instructed (participants must answer 30% of the multiple-choice questions correctly and respond to all questions). You may choose only one incentive per pilot test session and may participate in up to two (2) pilot tests. Additional incentive requests beyond two (2) pilot test sessions will not be honored.
Test Information
Pilot tests are administered in a 105-minute testing session. Approximately 20 minutes of the session are dedicated to the presentation of a computer-based testing tutorial and a short survey.
There is no fee for participating in a pilot test. Eligible participants may complete up to two (2) pilot test forms. The second registration can only be scheduled after the first pilot test session is completed (consecutive pilot test appointments are not available).
Pilot test results will be analyzed as group data only and will be kept confidential. Score information will not be provided to participants or institutions.
For additional information about participating in this pilot test, please email OAEprogram@pearson.com.
