Texas Educator Certification Examination Program

The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson is pilot testing items for the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program.

Eligibility Requirements for Participation

To be eligible to participate in a pilot test, you must meet at least one of following eligibility requirements:

  1. You are currently enrolled in an approved Texas educator preparation programs (EPPs) offering Bilingual Spanish Supplemental or Bilingual Education Spanish Supplemental  OR
  2. You have taken the Bilingual Target Language Proficiency (BTLPT) exam within the past twelve months.  

Please note: Educator preparation faculty are not eligible to participate in the pilot tests.

Current Pilot Test Opportunities

Note: To register for this pilot test, you will need to set up a Pearson VUE web account specifically for Evaluation Systems SR Pilots. Even if you already have a Pearson VUE account, you will need to set up a Pearson VUE web account with a different username and password to access this pilot test. 

  • TExES Bilingual Education Spanish Supplemental (select PTTX165 when scheduling your appointment)

Please be aware that this pilot test contains questions from three (3) subtests of the future Bilingual Education Spanish Supplemental exam:

  • Listening and Speaking in Spanish
  •  Reading and Writing in Spanish
  •  Foundations of Bilingual Education and Instructional Practice

When this exam is administered in the future, you will have the option to take all three subtests at one time or register and schedule each subtest individually. 

Advantages of Participating

You will have the opportunity to view and respond to questions that may appear on future test forms for the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program. For the acceptable completion of a pilot test form, participants are offered a $100.00 Amazon.com gift code. Incentives are issued upon verification of the *acceptable completion of each pilot test form. Please allow up to 6 weeks for processing.

Other advantages of pilot test participation include:

  • providing input into an exam that will be taken by future educators,
  • gauging professional knowledge by taking actual test questions, and
  • gaining practical testing experience.

*To be eligible for an incentive, participants must be qualified in the specific field for which they are taking a pilot test and they must complete the pilot test as instructed (participants must answer 25% of the selected-response questions correctly, if applicable, and complete the constructed-response questions as directed). Participants may take up to two (2) pilot test forms. Additional incentive requests beyond two (2) pilot test sessions will not be honored.

Pilot Test Information

Each pilot test consists of:

  • Approximately 60 selected-response (multiple-choice) items, some of which require listening to audio excerpts
  • 4 constructed-response questions requiring recorded spoken responses
  • 1 constructed-response question requiring a written response

The pilot is administered during a 180-minute test session. Approximately 25 minutes of the session is dedicated to the presentation of a computer-based testing tutorial and a short survey. A headset with microphone will be provided at the test center.

There is no fee for participating in the pilot test. Eligible participants may complete up to two (2) pilot test forms.  The second registration can only be scheduled after the first pilot test session is completed (consecutive pilot test appointments are not available). 

Pilot test results will be analyzed as group data only and will be kept confidential. Score information will not be provided to participants or institutions.

Scheduling Information

Pilot testing begins July 21, 2025. You may schedule an appointment starting June 18, 2025.

After you schedule a pilot test appointment, Pearson VUE will email you a confirmation listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of your test center, and directions to the test center.

If you are unable to keep a pilot test appointment, please cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled test time.
