About the OpenEDG JS Institute

The JS Institute is an independent non-profit project venture run and managed by the Open Education and Development Group (OpenEDG), whose aim is to support the education and industry sectors, and help them fulfill their JavaScript needs, as well as support and foster the development of the JavaScript language and its vibrant communities.

The JS Institute provides a global framework for JavaScript programming education and high-stakes assessments, and offers vendor-neutral certification programs in the JavaScript programming language, delivered in cooperation with schools, colleges, and universities; training companies and IT industry leaders; and available through the OpenEDG Testing Service, OnVUE Online Proctoring, and a network of 5,000 accredited Pearson VUE testing centers.

About JavaScript

JavaScript is a dynamic scripting programming language used for web development, interactive web and mobile applications, game development, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR). It can be used both on the client side and server side across multiple industries to create all kinds of front-end and back-end applications.

As many as 70% of developers use JavaScript for their work-related projects, which makes it the most popular programming language in the world, and an overwhelming 95% of web pages worldwide embed JavaScript code within them.

JavaScript is mainly used by front-end developers who build the user-facing, visual part of a website. Other jobs in which JavaScript skills are particularly useful include: Web Application Developer, Mobile Application Developer, Web Designer, Back-End Web Developer, Full Stack Developer, System Administrator, UX Designer, DevOps Engineer, Security Engineer, Technical Writer, and Educator.

Since the popularity of JavaScript is constantly growing, and more opportunities are opening up for skilled programmers, the demand for JavaScript programmers is highly likely to increase over the next decade.

JS Institute Certification Program

The JS Institute has defined an independent global certification program for the JavaScript programming language. JS Institute vendor-neutral certifications validate the candidate’s programming skills, knowledge, and abilities, and equip them with all the necessary means and resources to pursue a career in JavaScript programming and related technologies across a number of different industry sectors.

Test Candidates can take certification exams at three competency levels (entry, associate, and professional), and across two different certification tracks (general-purpose programming, and web development).

Prepare for Your Exam

You can sign up for any of the JS Institute courses aligned with the JSE and JSA certifications that are available through the Cisco Networking Academy program, or through Edube Interactive, the OpenEDG Learning & Assessment Hub.

Schedule an Exam

Before scheduling an exam, set up a web account at Pearson VUE and obtain a Candidate Testing ID (CPI ID).

If you already have your CPI ID, sign into your Pearson VUE web account and follow the exam registration procedure. Your appointment can be made in advance or, in some cases, on the same day you wish to test. You do not need to have a voucher to schedule a JS Institute exam – you can purchase your exam at the moment of registration.

Having signed into your Pearson VUE web account, you’ll be able to register online using your credit or debit card.

Verify a Certification

Others can easily verify an individual’s certification status by entering a unique certificate verification code at the OpenEDG JS Institute Certificate Verification page. The certificate verification code can be found in the top left-hand corner of all certificates issued by the JS Institute.

Digital Badging

Candidates who pass an OpenEDG JS Institute exam (JSE, JSA, WDA, WDE, JSPA, and JSPB) will qualify for an OpenEDG JS Institute badge.

When represented as a digital credential, candidates can share their achievements with their network with one click on Credly’s Acclaim platform. Thanks to the digital credentials from the OpenEDG JS Institute, peers and employers can verify these credentials and learn more about what it is the candidates can do. Furthermore, research shows that professionals who share their digital credentials to professional networking sites are discovered by employers, on average, six times more often than those who do not.

Retake Policy

When a candidate fails an exam, they must wait fifteen days before being allowed to re-sit that exam. No retakes of a passed exam of the same exam version are allowed. A new voucher is required for each retake.
