Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) is the independent regulator overseeing worker safety and health across Queensland's mining, quarrying, petroleum, gas, and explosives industries. Established as a statutory body in 2020, RSHQ operates under the Resources Safety and Health Act 2020,

What RSHQ Does

RSHQ administers key safety and health legislation, including:

  • Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999
  • Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999
  • Explosives Act 1999
  • Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004

Board of Examiners Online Supervised Examinations

The Board of Examiners is established under part 10 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999, The Board of Examiners is responsible for the setting of exams and issuing certificates of competency and notices to people who want to work in statutory positions in the metalliferous and coal mining industries in Queensland.

The Board of Examiners:

  • determines required competencies for certificates of competency and notices
  • assesses applications
  • grant certificates of competency and Site Senior Executive (SSE) notices
  • ensures the competencies required in Queensland are consistent with those in other Australian and New Zealand jurisdictions.

The Board of Examiners assess applicants' suitability for certificates of competency and Site Senior Executive notices under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999.

The Board of Examiners is transitioning away from paper-based examinations to online examinations.

Important information about your examination

To undertake an examination administered by the Board of Examiners, you must have received notification that your application has been approved to undertake your examination. You will not be able to initiate an examination session without formal approval of your application. Approval of your application allows you one valid session to undertake your examination, if you fail the examination, a waiting period of three months from notification date, will be enacted before you can reapply.
