California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) Testing

HCD’s Mission is to promote safe, affordable homes and vibrant, inclusive, sustainable communities for all Californians. The Occupational Licensing Program with HCD supports this mission by ensuring that those who build and sell manufactured homes and commercial modular units understand the requirements of the position.

The Dealer and Salesperson examinations consist of multiple-choice questions based on the California laws and regulations governing the sale of manufactured homes, multifamily manufactured homes, mobilehomes, and commercial modulars.

All Pearson test centers are equipped to provide access in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and every reasonable accommodation will be made in meeting a candidate’s needs.

Note: If you require an exam accommodation and have not requested one during the authorization process, please contact HCD at (800) 952-8356 or OLtesting@hcd.ca.gov. All Special Examination Arrangement requests must be approved by the HCD prior to exam registration.

Before you can schedule your examination, you must submit an examination application and examination fee to HCD. If you need to reschedule your appointment (exam) or cancel your appointment (exam), you must do so at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment (exam) by contacting customer service.

If you cannot attend your scheduled exam and do not cancel or reschedule with Pearson within 48 hours of your appointment, you are considered a "No Show" and forfeit your examination fee. You must then reapply to take the exam with HCD.
