New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) Testing
The New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) promotes the safety of all people that build, work, and live in New York City by regulating the lawful use of over one million buildings and construction sites across the five boroughs. With a focus on safety, service, and integrity, the Department enforces the City’s Construction Codes, Zoning Resolution, and the New York State Multiple Dwelling Law. The Department also issues licenses and registrations to individuals working with our Department and/or within the construction trades in New York City.
All examination centers are equipped to provide access in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and every reasonable accommodation will be made in meeting a candidate’s needs. Applicants with disabilities or those who would otherwise have difficulty taking the examination must fill out this form and fax to (916) 561-7244.
Please note that all Special Examination Arrangement requests MUST be submitted with the application to be accepted.

Application Requirements
Before you can schedule your examination, you must submit a typed examination application and fee to the Department. Applications that do not include the examination fee will be returned to the applicant. Corresponding license and qualification examination applications can be found on the Department’s website at http://www1.nyc.gov/site/buildings/industry/applications-forms.page. Any false statement on your application will result in you being deemed ineligible to take the corresponding qualification examination and may result in severe civil and criminal penalties.
