Pennsylvania Notaries Examination

The PA Notary exam is available for online testing. The Notaries Bureau within the Pennsylvania Department of State only allows only ONE attempt to take the PA Notary Exam via Online Testing. If candidates fail the online examination, they must register at a PHYSICAL testing site for their next PA Notary exam.

Important Information

Effective October 26, 2017, all applicants who do not hold an active notary commission (at the time their application is received by the Department) will be required to pass an examination. Authorized applicants may schedule their exam from this website.

Only those who have been approved by the Division of Commissions, Legislation and Notaries are permitted to schedule an exam. Applications to take an exam are submitted electronically. Please allow up to four weeks for review and approval of your notary public application. Once approved, a notification with instructions on how to schedule an exam will be emailed.
