Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) Exam

The Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) Medical Unit (MU) offers the State of California Certification Examination for Qualified Medical Evaluators (QMEs). The QME exam is designed to demonstrate the competence of a physician in evaluating medical issues in the workers' compensation system and to evaluate competency with respect to current California Workers' Compensation System terminology, laws, rules, regulations, and medical-legal procedures.

For all general questions about the testing process, please visit the Qualified Medical Evaluator page on the DWC website.

All examination centers where the QME exam is administered are equipped to provide access in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and every reasonable accommodation will be made in meeting a candidate’s needs. If you require a special accommodation and have not requested one during the application process, please contact the DWC. Please note that all Special Examination Arrangement requests must be made at the time of application.
