SCST Examinations
Please read the information below carefully as it should answer most questions you may have before the examination. Please ensure you read the section on Required Identification.
Results will be sent approximately four weeks after the examination. Further information about the next steps will be included with your results, where applicable. You may also be sent a short survey following the examination.
Examination Details
The SCST written examinations are professional body qualifications in ECG interpretation. Please note that, as with most professional qualifications, different examinations apply to different categories or roles of staff.
The SCST offers the following written examinations:
- Certificate in Electrocardiography
- Foundation in Essential ECG Interpretation
- Diploma in ECG Interpretation
Each examination consists of multiple-choice questions only.

Exams can still be booked after the closing date (on the condition that you have already registered) until 48 hours prior to the exam commences, subject to availability.
Examination Scheduling Information
Pearson Account
First time test takers must create a Pearson web account. There is a “Create account” option available on this page. Please note that account creation may require up to 24 hours. You will be notified by email when your account is activated.
Registering for an Exam
Once you have a Pearson web account you will be able to register for any exams for which you qualify. You will need to choose your exam, exam language, exam test center, date of exam and time of exam. After you schedule your exam, Pearson will send a confirmation email detailing your exam date, your exam time, the address and phone number of the test center and directions to the test center.
Examination Accommodations
If you require accommodations for your examination, please contact SCST at education@scst.org.uk before registering, as all accommodations must be approved in advance.
Requests must be submitted no later than 26 August 2026 (six weeks before the examination date). Please do not register for, or book your examination until your accommodation request has been reviewed and approved. SCST will notify you by email of the outcome of your request and provide further instructions regarding your booking.

Admission Policy
We ask that you arrive at the test centre 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This will give you adequate time to complete the necessary sign-in procedures. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, you may be refused admission, and the exam fees will be forfeited.
No personal items may be taken into the testing room. This includes bags, notes, phones, pagers, watches and wallets. Lockers are provided.
Required Identification – Photo ID
You will be required to present one form of original, valid and unexpired government-issued ID that includes your name, photograph and signature, such as a valid passport or driving licence.
The first and last name used to register must match exactly the first and last name shown on the ID presented on the test day. All ID must be issued by the country in which you are testing. If you do not have qualifying ID issued from the country in which you are testing, you will need to present an International Travel Passport from your country of citizenship.

Food, Drink & Comfort
Food and drink are not permitted in the test centre. Please refer to the comfort aids list linked above for any exceptions.
You must provide your own comfort aids except for the following items, which will be provided by the test centre:
- Earplugs
- Headphones
You may go to the toilet at any time by raising your hand. Please note that your clock will not be paused during an unscheduled break.
Exam Aids
An onscreen calculator will be available. Candidates will also be provided with a whiteboard and marker pen.
Cancellation Policy
You must contact Pearson or access your online Pearson account to cancel your exam at least a minimum of 48 hours prior to your appointment. Exams cannot be cancelled less than 48 hours prior to your appointment. Failure to cancel in time or failure to appear for your appointment will result in the forfeiture of your exam fee.
