University Admissions Tests UK

Booking for January 2025 tests will be available online from 6am BST on 24th October 2024. Please ensure you request any access arrangements before 21st November.

About UAT-UK and our tests

UAT-UK offers two computer-based undergraduate admissions tests for a range of university courses in engineering, science, and mathematics related courses: The Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) and the Engineering and Science Admissions Test (ESAT). These tests are delivered by Pearson VUE and their network of professional test centres, worldwide.

More information on the format of both the TMUA and the ESAT can be found on the UAT-UK website, as well as advice on test preparation.

Our tests are intended for use alongside other selection criteria, determined by each University to which you are applying. This might include your academic qualifications and/or your performance at an interview. You should refer to the admissions pages of the institution(s) to which you are applying for more information.

Scheduling a Test

Both the TMUA and the ESAT are offered twice per year, in October and January. You are only permitted to sit the test once per admissions cycle. If you are applying to Cambridge, you must register to sit in October.

Before sitting a UAT-UK test, you will need to complete a two-step registration:

  • First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. Please note that account activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • Book and pay for your test – once your online account registration is complete and you have created an UAT-UK Profile, you will receive an email with details enabling you to book and pay for the TMUA and/or the ESAT.

Candidates from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Iran, Kenya, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda, will need to arrange to pay via bank transfer. You will need to contact UAT-UK to do this as early as possible.

UAT-UK and Pearson VUE are committed to providing reasonable adjustments where possible. If you require access arrangements visit the UAT-UK website before registering, using the link on this page.
Bursaries may also be available for UK applicants in financial need. Information on eligibility and how to apply can be found on the UAT-UK website using the links on this page.

It is up to you to make sure you have booked and paid for a test sitting by the relevant deadline. We will not be able to accommodate late bookings.

After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test centre, and directions to the test centre.

Sample Tests

To help you prepare for your test, it is advised that you work through our sample tests below.

These tests will help you familiarise yourself with the test format, the style of questions, and the test player navigation and accessibility features.

All questions are intended to be viewed on desktop rather than mobile devices, to accurately reflect the live test experience.

For ease of use, the ESAT sample tests are split into their separate parts so you can easily access the subjects that you intend to take in the live test. On the day of the test, your chosen subjects will be combined as a single test of, typically, three separately timed parts.

Past papers and additional preparatory materials can be found on the UAT-UK site.

Specimen Tests

Each question comes with an explained answer to aid your preparation.

Practice Tests

These tests are timed and will close down automatically at the end of the allotted time. At the end of each part, you will be able to review which questions were answered correctly. We advise that you sit these under test conditions.
