About UAT-UK and our tests

Test Dates for 2026 entry are now live on the UAT-UK website.

UAT-UK offers three computer-based undergraduate admissions tests for a wide range of university courses: The Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA), the Engineering and Science Admissions Test (ESAT) and the Test of Academic Reasoning for University Admission (TARA). These tests are delivered by Pearson VUE and their network of professional test centres, worldwide.

Our tests are intended for use alongside other selection criteria, determined by each University to which you are applying. This might include your academic qualifications and/or your performance at an interview. You should refer to the admissions pages of the institution(s) to which you are applying for more information.

More information on the format of both the TMUA and the ESAT can be found on the UAT-UK website, as well as advice on test preparation.

The TARA is a new test for 2026 entry. More information and preparatory materials will be made available in late-April.

UAT-UK tests are offered twice per year, in October and January. You are only permitted to sit each test once per admissions cycle. If you are applying to Cambridge, you must register to sit your test(s) in October.

Before sitting a UAT-UK test, you will need to complete a two-step registration:

  • All test takers (returning and new) will need to create a UAT-UK online account. You will be able to do this in early-June.
  • Book and pay for your test – once your online account registration is complete and you have created an UAT-UK Profile, you will be eligible to book and pay for a test. Test booking for the October 2025 sitting will open in July.

It is up to you to make sure you have booked and paid for a test sitting by the relevant deadline. We will not be able to accommodate late bookings.

After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test centre, and directions to the test centre.

If you have any general issues or concerns, you should contact Pearson VUE. If you have an issue during your exam that is not resolved, you should raise this within 24 hours. Please be aware that we’re unable to offer support through our social media and other channels. Our customer support team is best placed to advise on and respond to any enquiries. We also report all concerns raised to UAT-UK to ensure all candidates are treated equally and fairly.

Sample Tests

To help you prepare for your test, it is advised that you work through our sample tests below.

Sample tests for TARA will be available on this page in May 2025. A specimen test, with explained answers will be provided, along with a time-constrained practice test.

These tests will help you familiarise yourself with the test format, the style of questions, and the test player navigation and accessibility features.

All questions are intended to be viewed on desktop rather than mobile devices, to accurately reflect the live test experience.

For ease of use, the ESAT sample tests are split into their separate parts so you can easily access the subjects that you intend to take in the live test. On the day of the test, your chosen subjects will be combined as a single test of, typically, three separately timed parts.

Past papers and additional preparatory materials can be found on the UAT-UK site.

Specimen Tests

Each question comes with an explained answer to aid your preparation.

Practice Tests

These tests are timed and will close down automatically at the end of the allotted time. At the end of each part, you will be able to review which questions were answered correctly. We advise that you sit these under test conditions.
