Division of Labor Standards Enforcement – Electrician Certification Testing
Existing law requires that persons performing work as an electrician under a C-10 licensed contractor be certified pursuant to certification standards established by the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. “Electricians” is defined as all persons who engage in the connection of electrical devices for electrical contractors licensed pursuant to Section 7058 of the Business and Profession Code, specifically, contractors classified as electrical contractors in the Contractors State License Board Rules and Regulations [Labor Code § 108 (c)].
Prior to scheduling an examination, candidates must meet the program’s eligibility requirements established by the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE)/Electrician Certification Unit (ECU). For more information on eligibility, please refer to the Electrician Certification Program home page.
Eligible candidates will receive an Authorization to Test email from PearsonVUEConfirmation@pearson.com with instructions on how to create an online account and how to schedule an exam appointment. All candidates must create a Pearson web account, username, and password to schedule an examination.

All examination centers where the ECU Program’s exams are administered are equipped to provide access in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. If you require a reasonable testing accommodation and you did not request one during the application process, please contact CPS HR Consulting (855-298-4917; ECUExams@cpshr.us) immediately.
Please note that all Reasonable Examination Accommodation Arrangement requests must be made prior to scheduling an exam appointment.
Exams are administered at Pearson test centers. Candidates must adhere to Pearson check-in procedures and test center rules.
Identification
You are required to present two forms of original (no photocopies), valid (unexpired) IDs; one form as a primary ID (government issued with name, photo, and signature) and one form as a secondary ID (with name and signature, or name and recent recognizable photo). The first and last name used to register must match exactly the first and last name on the IDs that are presented on test day. All required IDs must be issued by the country in which you are testing. If you do not have a qualifying primary ID issued from the country you are testing in, an International Travel Passport from your country of citizenship is required, along with a secondary ID. Arrival time
Please arrive early for your exam appointments. Pearson only allows a 30-minute grace period for late arrivals. Late arrivals may not be admitted and may forfeit exam fees.
Personal items
No personal items may be taken into the testing room. This includes all bags, notes, phones, watches (including “smart” watches), hats, coats, wallets, and “smart” glasses. You must store all personal items in a secure area as indicated by the proctor or return them to your vehicle.
Reschedule/cancel
You must reschedule or cancel your appointment at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled exam time to avoid forfeiting your exam fees. You may reschedule/cancel your examination appointment through your online account by contacting customer service.
